In the beginning....

WLFLIPPED
This is a blog where the members of the Pinellas World Languages Flipped Classroom PLC can share ideas and keep track of our progress.

I (Pam Benton) got the idea to start this PLC when I served on the Commissioner of Education's Digital Learning Group.  It's one of the ideas that is a progressive way to better meet the needs of our students in the 21st Century.

I started out by e-mailing all the World Languages teachers in Pinellas County and proposing to form a PLC (Professional Learning Community) to study the book, Flip Your Classroom:  Reach Every Student in Every Class Every Day by Jonathan Bergmann & Aaron Sams.  Published 2012 by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE--see below), and   to design a "flipped" unit that some of the teachers might be willing to actually try out this school year.

Well, the response was overwhelming.  Both teachers who'd heard about this idea already and teachers who were learning about it for the first time were intrigued.  After a few short conversations and a lot of e-mails, about 15 teachers decided to work with this group and study the book together and, perhaps, to varying degrees to flip their classes for at least part of one unit this year!  We're off and running!
